A pesca com rede de emalhe fixo na zona de arrebentação no sul do Brasil: subsídios para a gestão de pescarias de beira de praia

Abstract

The surf zone fixed gillnet fishery (FG FG-SZ) occurs along the coast of Rio Grande do Sul state (RS). We describe qualitatively and quantitatively this fishery on the south coast of RS, along 23 km of Praia do Cassino
(municipality of Rio Grande). A total of 24 fishermen were interviewed with a semi semi-structured questionnaire to obtain information about fishing gear, forms of operation and to characterize the socioeconomic profile. Trammel nets feiticeiras ”) were predominant, with reduced length (20 to 50m) and operating at depths of up to 2 m. Three types of FG FG-SZ were observed: pesca de cabo ”, pesca mista ” e pesca de calão ”. Fishing is dependent on favorable meteorological and oceanographic conditions. Four areas of fishing concentration were observed, associated with low human occupation. Fishermen have low income and limited education, with the majority having fishing as a complementary source of income and food,
carried out informally. The lack of regulation of this activity in RS causes several problems that impede its sustainable development. It aggravates the conflicts and hinders the adequate management of fishing resources in the surf zone.
