Original scientific article

This type of article is prepared as a result of the development of unpublished research or progress obtained in a given investigation, seeking to respond to specific objectives based on a study hypothesis. The original scientific article is written so that other researchers can reproduce the experiments, described in the topic materials and methods. In addition, scientific results are shown, discussed based on data analysis. In the discussion, the strengths and weaknesses of the study can be addressed, where the findings of the study are explained, the meaning of the main findings compared with those of other published studies.

Case study

It approaches a research based on information and descriptions of individual cases (a disease, a technical procedure) or multiple cases, in which several studies are conducted simultaneously: several individuals, several organizations, for example, accompanied by analysis and discussion. It is also necessary to dialogue the case report with theoretical references on the topics covered. The case study presents several applications and utilities in exploratory and comparative research.

  1. Writing of the article: language and gramatical correction

Authors must observe the rules of culture of the language in which the article will be written. The text must be objective, clear and without grammatical errors. We recommend special attention to the following elements:

- verbal and nominal agreement;

- sentence length (one should opt for shorter and more direct sentences);

- sentence order (we suggest direct use, without many intercalations, which end up causing confusion due to lack of cohesion);

- special care with punctuation, especially the use of commas: do not separate subject from predicate by comma.

Before submitting articles, we recommend authors that the text undergo a careful review and editing of texts, preferably by a professional. The journal Biodiversidade Brasileira may make corrections to the text whenever it deems necessary.

  1. Journal Standardization

Units of measurement: insert space after number (8 km, 27 ha).

The word habitat: always in the singular and in italics (the habitat, the habitats).

Conservation unit: lowercase initials (Ex.: Conservation units...).

Type of conservation units: All capital letters (PARNA, RESEX, FLONA, REBIO etc.).

Hours: For full hours, put the h next to the number, without the s. For hours with minutes, put: hour + h + minutes (15:00, 15:30).

Acronyms and acronyms: the first time they appear, they must be placed in parentheses, after the full name. Eg: Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). In the plural, the ending -s must be inserted: the UCs, the FLONAs, the PARNAs.

  1. Formatting rules

File type: Articles must be sent in Word or DocX files. Supplementary files may be sent at the time of submission.

Article size: Up to 8,000 words.
