Abstract

Myxine australis occurs along the south coast of South America, from southern Brazil to
southern Chile, including Tierra del Fuego and Strait of Magellan. In Brazil, there is no available
data to evaluate its risk of extinction, since only two specimens have been reported. While bottom
trawling constitutes a potential threat, the lack of data does not allow us to verify its extent of
occurrence in Brazil. Myxine australis has therefore been categorized as Data Deficient (DD).
