Historical Aspects of Hunting in Brazil in the XVIII and XIX Centuries

This work aims to analyze the history of the hunting of wildlife in Brazil in the 18th and 19th centuries. Our discussions point out that the documents in the 18th century served primarily to report the potential uses of the native fauna to the portuguese empire, with few changes in relation to the first two centuries of the colonial period. The scenario changed drastically with the opening of the ports to the foreign nations in the 19th century. It was possible to identify changes in the conservation status of some species in relation to the present day, such as population depletions and local extinctions.
