Presencia de residuos plásticos en el tracto digestivo de Mújol (Mugil liza) del estuario de Cananeia, sureste de Brasil

La contaminación de los ecosistemas marinos y otros medios acuáticos por plástico y sus derivados es un problema grave y creciente en la actualidad. Los peces y otros animales acuáticos se ven afectados directa e indirectamente por la presencia de plásticos en sus hábitats, ya que muchas especies, independientemente de su tamaño, ingieren fácilmente diferentes tipos de plásticos. En este trabajo, investigamos la presencia de plásticos y desechos plásticos de cualquier tipo en el tracto digestivo de mújol, peces del género Mugil, que se encuentran fácilmente en la costa brasileña y son ampliamente consumidos como parte de la dieta humana. De los 57 peces a los que se les analizó el tracto digestivo, 40 tenían algún tipo de residuo de plástico junto con el contenido de alimento. En el tracto digestivo de estos animales se observaron materiales como hilos de nailon de diferentes colores y pequeños fragmentos de plástico azul. Estos resultados son similares a otros estudios realizados en la misma región con diferentes especies de peces y también corroborados por estudios de otras regiones de la costa brasileña. Los datos obtenidos en el presente trabajo demuestran que los peces estudiados pueden ingerir diferentes tipos de plásticos cuando están presentes en su hábitat natural, indicando la peligrosidad de la presencia de estos materiales en los ecosistemas acuáticos.
