Resumen

Pocos temas despiertan tanto conflicto de opiniones
en la arena ambiental como la cacería. Existen diversas formas de cacería en un gradiente difuso de intereses, métodos, efectos sociales y ambientales, grados de formalización y grados de aceptación social. El debate moderno sobre la cacería, incluso en Brasil, se centra en cuestiones morales, pero cuestiones ambientales y sociales también son relevantes. Una reflexión sobre la caza pasa por la superación de las formas ambiguas como la biodiversidad y los animales son representados en las sociedades modernas. Tratándose de un tema recientemente incorporado al dominio ético, es un campo aún en construcción sobre el cual no existe una moral establecida. En este artículo argumento que (1) existe una amplia gama de matices de relacionamiento entre los seres humanos y los animales y de motivaciones para estas relaciones en las sociedades modernas, por lo que el concepto de cacería siempre debe referirse a un contexto específico; (2) los argumentos y juicios a favor o contra determinados tipos de cacería incluyen contradicciones y conflictos con aquellos
utilizados en otras cuestiones medioambientales; (3) el tratamiento superficial del tema y la falta de consenso resultan a menudo en posiciones y decisiones inadecuadamente basadas; (4) la construcción social moderna dominante está condicionada por el modo de vida urbano, que se caracteriza por el alejamiento o hasta la alienación de los contactos de primera mano con ambientes y especies silvestres y enfatiza la noción de crueldad; (5) que todas las formas de cacería presentan desafíos y oportunidades de satisfacción de intereses
sociales y de contribución o amenaza para la conservación de la biodiversidad, de tal forma no es posible juzgar a priori cualquier forma de cacería como en sí misma conservacionista o degradadora.

Bacharel (1990) e Licenciado (1991) em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1990), Mestre em Manejo de Vida Silvestre pela Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina (1994) e Doutor em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (2005). Professor na UNISINOS - Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos de 1995 a 2009. Professor Adjunto da UFRN - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte de 2009 a 2010. Professor Adjunto da UFSM - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria de 2009 a 2013. Atualmente professor do Departamento de Ecologia da UFRGS - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Desenvolve pesquisas na área de Conservação e Manejo de Vida Silvestre, com ênfase no manejo de invasões biológicas, exploração de recursos biológicos, planejamento e manejo de áreas protegidas e ecologia e conservação de áreas úmidas e aves aquáticas. Coordenada o Laboratório de Biologia da Conservação do Centro de Ecologia da UFRGS.
