– Forest fires have been cited as one of the biggest threats to the planet's natural ecosystems. In Minas Gerais, forest fires are generally caused by human actions, reaching annually a large part of its territory, affecting the maintenance of ecosystem services. In the Centre-South region of Minas Gerais, is situated the Sinclinal Moeda, a priority area for biodiversity conservation and important for its ecosystem services. Therefore, it is important to understand how forest fires occur in this area and how they can be managed. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the forest fires in the Sinclinal Moeda, covering the period from 1985 to 2022. In addition, this work sought to correlate changes in the forest fire scenario with improvements in prevention and combat actions. Using data from MapBiomas Fire Collection 2, we obtained the total area affected by forest fires, the number of fires, the length of the fire line and the frequency of these fires. The results showed a decrease in the total burnt area annually by forest fires, as well as the number of occurrences, the length of the fire line and the frequency of these fires in the Sinclinal Moeda during the period evaluated. This decrease occurred after 2011, indicating an association with the implementation of fire prevention and control brigades, as well as a series of actions and improvements to the fire prevention and firefighting infrastructure in the region.
