Objectives, focus, and thematic lines

Biodiversidade Brasileira accepts submissions of original research articles, review articles, case studies, opinion articles, and scientific notes, and has the following objectives:

  • To foster discussion and the dissemination of experiences and challenges in conservation and management, focusing on protected areas and threatened species.

  • To promote interdisciplinarity related to biodiversity conservation, ecology, biology, and human ecology.

  • To contribute to scientific communication and the application of knowledge in the management of protected areas, biodiversity conservation, preservation of speleological heritage, and traditional knowledge in all its dimensions.

The journal’s focus is biodiversity conservation, with the following thematic lines:

Conservation and Management of Protected Areas

  • Improvement of planning and implementation of protected areas.

  • Participation at different levels of territorial planning (national, regional, and local).

  • Promotion of expansion and connectivity of protected areas.

  • Restoration of terrestrial and aquatic habitats.

  • Integrated and adaptive fire management.

Management and Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources

  • Strengthening the management of timber and non-timber products extracted or with potential for use in protected areas.

  • Strengthening fisheries management and production chains in sustainable-use protected areas.

  • Promotion of best practices and regulation of wildlife use in sustainable-use protected areas.

  • Human ecology, environmental education, and citizen science.

Biodiversity and Threatened Species

  • Promotion of the improvement of the conservation status of threatened species.

  • Biodiversity monitoring.

  • Promotion of invasive exotic species management.

  • Appreciation of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and speleological heritage.

  • Biodiversity conservation.

Biodiversity and Natural Heritage Monitoring and Protection

  • Strengthening management and protection.

  • Promotion of intelligence in monitoring and protection actions.

Education and Training for the Conservation of Socio-Biodiversity

  • Development and application of educational methodologies for conservation.

  • Training of educators, managers, communities, and other social actors.

  • Systematization of pedagogical practices in formal and non-formal teaching contexts.

  • Appreciation of traditional knowledge and interdisciplinary approaches in biodiversity education.

  • Scientific outreach and public communication aimed at conservation.

Other topics may be accepted if accompanied by a justification of the article’s relevance to the journal.
