Frequency

Four editions are published per year, scheduled for the following dates:

Publication formats

The journal publishes continuous flow issues and thematic issues. Special issues may also be published, which are not counted as regular issues.

Thematic issues are not mandatory, with the preferred practice being the publication of one thematic issue per year, in the month of November.

Only original and unpublished manuscripts are accepted. Biodiversidade Brasileira considers a work to be original and unpublished if it has not been published in a scientific journal, either in print or digital format. In cases of submission of works available in institutional repositories (dissertations and theses) or in conference proceedings, authors are invited to reflect on the relevance of publishing the text, provided it is properly adapted to the accepted formats and its relevance to the journal is demonstrated, as justified in the cover letter.

Continuous flow

Works that fall within the scope are published, following one of the thematic lines (conservation and management of protected areas; management and sustainable use of renewable natural resources; biodiversity and threatened species; monitoring and protection of biodiversity and natural heritage; and education and training for the conservation of socio-biodiversity). Continuous publication allows for the immediate publication of the accepted manuscript (after editing and layout) in the ongoing regular issue, without needing to wait for the completion of each full issue.

Thematic Edition  

Submitted works must align with the specific theme of the respective call. The thematic edition can be proposed by specialists either internal or external to ICMBio, through the submission of a document called PROPOSAL FOR THE THEMATIC EDITION to the journal's email (biodiversidade.brasileira@icmbio.gov.br). It will be necessary to specify the content and relevance of the theme for the journal, as well as indicate at least three thematic editors responsible for overseeing the edition, with one designated as the focal point for distributing the received manuscripts and for contacting the editorial team. In return, the proposers of the thematic edition must commit to editing the texts and formatting the articles according to the standards of the journal Biodiversidade Brasileira, and to meeting the publication deadlines.

The thematic edition proposal will be reviewed by the Editorial Board. The initial publication of the edition does not exempt the thematic editors from the responsibility of publishing the remaining articles; that is, to propose a thematic edition, the proposers must take responsibility for editing all the articles in the issue. Articles submitted to the thematic edition that do not complete the evaluation and editing cycle by the finalization of the edition will be published continuously in subsequent issues.

Special editions

Targeted at specific audiences and focused on scientific dissemination to society, they may contain materials in various formats, such as interviews, narratives, and illustrations. Special issues can be proposed by specialists both internal and external to ICMBio, by submitting a document called SPECIAL ISSUE PROPOSAL to the journal's email (biodiversidade.brasileira@icmbio.gov.br). It will be necessary to specify the content and relevance of the topic for the journal, the intended audience, the publication medium (digital or print), a concise dissemination plan (locations and possible dates), and the designation of a responsible editor as the focal point. The proposers of the special issue should indicate what their contribution will be (writing, illustration, layout, and/or printing). The proposals for special issues will be reviewed by the Editorial Board.
