La biodiversidad de Rio Grande do Sul a través de la ciencia ciudadana
un análisis de las observaciones registradas en la plataforma iNaturalist en 2024

Rio Grande do Sul/RS alberga una importante biodiversidad, y el uso de tecnologías digitales ha ampliado la capacidad de monitoreo ambiental mediante herramientas de ciencia ciudadana. Entre estas, iNaturalist se destaca como una plataforma colaborativa que permite a la población general registrar e identificar especies. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar las observaciones de biodiversidad registradas en iNaturalist en el estado de Rio Grande do Sul entre el 1 de enero y el 31 de diciembre de 2024. Los datos se extrajeron de la plataforma el 1 de enero de 2025, totalizando 49,940 observaciones, y se analizaron utilizando Google Sheets y Google Colab. El análisis indicó un predominio de registros de los reinos Animalia y Plantae, con énfasis en el grupo Insecta y géneros como Vanellus (aves) y Solanum (plantas). Se observó que un pequeño grupo de usuarios fue responsable de la mayoría de las contribuciones, lo que resalta la importancia de fomentar una participación más amplia de la sociedad. La distribución temporal de las observaciones siguió patrones estacionales y se vio afectada por eventos climáticos extremos, especialmente las inundaciones que ocurrieron en RS en mayo. En cuanto a la calidad de los datos, se identificó un número significativo de registros sin identificación específica o sin consenso entre los usuarios de la plataforma. En resumen, iNaturalist demuestra un gran potencial para ampliar el conocimiento sobre la biodiversidad de Rio Grande do Sul y fomentar la participación pública en la conservación ambiental. Sin embargo, es necesario mejorar la precisión de las identificaciones y promover una mayor adopción de la plataforma por parte de los usuarios.
